Week 62: October 22, 2018 - Showing Our Love For Them

Dear Family,
How you all doing!!!!! Loved reading your letters and hearing how you all are doing!!!!

A few neat things happened this week:
We went to Rabo de Peixe this week, a little town in our area, to visit this one family we hadn't been able to talk to in a while. We got to their front door and the husband, Eduardo, opened the door. Right when he opened, he looked back at his wife, Ana, with laugh. He said how they were just talking about us when we knocked on the door! So cool! We had a super neat lesson with them. They both love their family and just want to be happy together. It's super neat.

Elder Ray is having a lot of miracles here too!!! He says he is understanding people here better than any other area!!! This is supposed to be the hardest area to understand people too!!!! So cool!!! Whenever Elder Ray teaches, I look at him and the first word that pops into my head is, "Apostle!!!" I seriously think he will be an apostle in the future!!! He is so good at explaining the gospel to people and teaching to their needs and following the spirit.

We also had a super awesome family night this week with Mario, Paula and their kids. It was super fun!!! We had a super fun message with these wooden chopsticks where each chopstick represented a commandment that we were keeping. The more commandments we keep, the stronger we are until we are unbreakable. We showed how we cant just keep a few commandments, we need to keep all of them to be strong enough. Each commandment is something God gives us to make us stronger. They liked it and all the kids got super excited. We also brought over a bunch of crepes and pancakes we made for the treat at the end and showed them how to play Egyptian Rapslap. I think that is what it was called. The card game we played like crazy with our cousins, especially Carter and I. They all loved it!!!

We also got to teach this one family that lives in an area called Pico de Pedra. The mom's name is Vania and she lives with her kids and Dad, Joaquim. They are a super nice family, and they love talking to us! They are always super interested in our message and agree with everything. It had been so hard to talk to them until recently. Elder Ray and I taught them about the Book of Mormon and we are just doing simple invites to know if the Book of Mormon is true. We felt the spirit very strong during that lesson. They are super nice family!!!!

We also got to go with some other friends we are teaching, Naruto (a less active member) and Fernanda (his nonmember girlfriend). We went with them to play ping pong in the church and then had a super awesome message at the end about the Book of Mormon. It was awesome!!! Naruto and Fernanda had some good questions and really want to be closer to Christ. I notice how the spirit confirms a lot stronger when we speak from experience and speak from the heart. I feel like we are getting a lot closer to people as we focus on love and do things to show our love for them.

It is such a blessing to be serving a mission and to be serving the Lord. I'm so thankful for all you do and for all your love and support. Love you all soooooo much!!! Hope you all have the best week ever!!!!

Love,

Elder Barton
