Week 55: September 3, 2018 - God Makes Us Capable
Dear Fam,
Hey guys!!! We had an awesome week this week! We have been working a ton with less active members. We are talking to this one guy named Alfreido. He used to be a super strong member in the church. He had a few life-changing events that happened in his life that forced him to start smoking, and because of that, he got ashamed of going to church and didn't go for a while.
We have been passing by what seems like every day to talk to him and his non-member family. He really wanted to be married in the temple and stop smoking. He has such a sincere heart and is a super good man. He has been working so hard with quitting smoking! He was smoking 15 cigarettes every day and has brought it down to 5!!!! He is doing such an amazing job! The only thing that is holding him back is support from his family and friends. We are praying and working to help out his family too.
We had no luck finding new people to teach this week. We passed by a lot of less actives and investigators that we were already teaching. It seemed like we had totally failed at the end of the week. We had been working super hard; it just seemed we weren't having the results we wanted. We got pretty stressed out about it.
We were going to have a baptism this week too, but it ended up being moved back a week. That was stressful. Although it seemed like nothing was working out this week, Elder Fogg and I kept pushing forward. I've noticed how with a lot of the trials I have on the mission, God pushes me so that each trial, I can have more and more endurance in my faith. There are many times where I feel like my efforts and abilities are not enough and that things are falling apart. But, I know that God always prepares a way to fulfill His great purposes.
At the end of this week, we had 6 investigators show up at church and a few less actives, including Alfreido and his family!!!! Such a huge blessing!!!!! I know for sure that God made that happen. Without Him, I am incapable.
Love you all tons!!!! You are the best family ever!!!! Hope you all have such a wonderful week!!!!!!!!
Love always,
Elder Barton
