Week 41: May 28, 2018 - Sacrifices Bring Miracles
Dear Fam,
You all looked so good in all your photos!!! Looks like you all had such a fun week!!!! Every time I look at all you of, I cant help but just feel so happy inside and I end up with a frozen smile on my face! You all are just the best family ever!!! I feel like I say that so much, but I hope you know I always mean it when I say it; it always has the same amount of love, virtual hugs, and gratitude.
We had a super awesome week and lots of results from your prayers and our work!!! We went with the zone leaders one day this week in a trio; Elder Burke went with Elder Gusmão and I. We were out visiting people that we thought had the most potential to be baptized this week. Then, we got the impression that we needed to visit an investigator named Teresa. We had helped her stop smoking recently by giving her that cigarette tea (sent a video of that last week, it was awesome!!!)
We went to her door, knocked, and she wasn't there. That didn't get us down at all; our faith was still the same. We left and started walking on this one road. And then, can you guess? Yes, we ran into Teresa. We could not have found her in a more perfect moment, and it was amazing we found her where she was! We walked with her to her house and started talking to her. She then let us in. We taught her a few things, Elder Burke, our zone leader, did a baptismal interview, and she passed, no problem!!!!
We then passed by her house every day leading up to her baptism this last Sunday. She stayed super strong with her resolve to quit smoking completely and was baptized this last Sunday!!! It was a huge miracle!!!! She chose me to baptize her because I looked a lot and acted a lot like a really good friend of hers who is actually the brother of the member that introduced Teresa to us. My look alike's name is João Pedro. He would have come down to baptize her, but he couldn't. He was up north in Portugal. Teresa and the member, Rute, always made jokes how I looked and acted just like João Pedro! Its actually pretty funny because there were times where I felt like I should do a certain thing and then Rute and Teresa laughed and said I was just like João Pedro! I felt like that may have played a role in her conversion and her accepting us over. Pretty cool!!!
She was super happy after her baptism too!!! She said she felt super light and free. I honestly feel like there was a lot that went in to that baptism. There were a lot of sacrifices on our part and on the part of others I'm sure. I actually made a list of 10 sacrifices that I would do to baptized this month. The last one was that I had to do 100 pushups at the end of the day if I broke one of the sacrifices I made, sort of like a make up. Lets just say I got pretty jacked this week! hahahahaha!!!! Miracles happen much easier and faster when we sacrifice a little more.
Well, my letter isn't super long and detailed this week, but it was a pretty solid week!!!!
Thanks so much for all of your prayers and support!!!! Love you all so much!!!!
Love always,
Elder Barton
