Week 98: July 1, 2019 - Blessed with Families

Dear Family,

Heyy!!!!!

Hows it going?

Great week! We taught some awesome families! On Monday, I went on a split with Elder Garay. He is from Paraguay. He is an amazing missionary and knows how to talk to people. We knocked on the door of a family we contacted. The parents were named Marcos and Katia. They were super nice and we got off to a really good start. Elder Garay started right into teaching the plan of salvation. The parents loved it. We got to one part and then Katia said, "This is where I don't agree with you." She had already talked to the missionaries before. She had a long break from them, and we were the first missionaries to talk to them in a while. She believed that all people that had faith in God would be saved. At one point, she asked us if she needed to be a "Mormon" to be saved. We first gave her a simple explanation of how much God loves us and about his eternal plan, and then I looked her right into the eyes and stated simply, "We believe that the Church of Jesus Christ is the only church that has the authority of God." There was a small pause after. I felt truly convicted and sincere about that phrase.

She also did not believe in eternal families which was a new one for me. We bore our testimonies. That's the best you can do when someone has a very strong opinion about something. We invited her and her husband to read a talk from Elder Ballard about eternal families and a few verses from Matthew chapter 7. We had a great conversation at the end and they invited us to come back. We have an appointment with them today. Pray for us;)

We also had an amazing lesson with another family about the restoration!!! Their names are Silvia, Reubem, Gabriel, and Laura. The whole family listened to our message. It was probably one of the neatest lessons I have taught. We used a few simple analogies to teach the lesson. One that I really liked was one we used to explain the great apostasy. We took out a piece of paper and everyone named a characteristic that describes the Gospel of Christ. We wrote them all down on the paper and then explained how after Christ's crucifiction and the rejection of the apostles, people without God's authority made changes to Christs Gospel and only taught parts of the truth. We tore the paper in pieces with each characteristic of Christ's Gospel.

We explained that this is why we have so many religions today. We explained that they all have parts of the truth, but not the whole truth, and that is why we needed a restoration of Christ's Gospel. Everyone seemed to understand super well. Reubem at the end really wanted to know which church was true. We gave them a passage from the Book of Mormon to read as a Family. He really wanted to read it.

We also visited a member family named Joi and Stella. They were super nice! They have two little kids, one newborn and one five year old. We taught them the plan of salvation using a drawing. It was awesome!!! The spirit was super strong in that lesson.

I loved talking to you guys!!! I feel so blessed to have the family I have!!!!

Love you all!!! Have a great week!!!

Elder Barton
